"My body of work is synonymous with Realism but that is just a single story. One can add my genre of art, ‘Afro-Contemporealism’. A fusion of African contemporary art and hyperrealism. Proudly Yoruba, there is always a traditional representation either with symbols that take the viewer back to the roots either in contemporary times or centuries ago. Nevertheless, I answer the global call that transcends my tribe but skilfully brings it back home as take ownership of each piece and its elucidation. You would assume that this is the zenith, then comes the interplay of natural laws, mythology, philosophical beliefs, and mathematical and scientic principles giving an exposé into my person.
The multi-disciplinary approach to my work, which weaves diering materials and methods belonging both to contemporary and modern art forms, calling into question the existence of time and being. Working across multiple mediums, my practice examines the everyday innermost activities of mankind exploring personal, mythological, philosophical and political narratives, focusing mostly on the resilience of the human spirit and the concept of dualism as the world I imagine is perfectly curated around it.
Through dark canvases infused with illustrations and gold leaf, I highlight the relationship between mankind and cosmology. These artworks serve as catalysts for philosophical commentary, addressing the innite and nite, immortality and mortality, and the microcosm and macrocosm in a thought-provoking manner. They invite viewers to contemplate our place within the grand tapestry of existence." Raji Bamidele
